Traffic Calming Pilot Study
Consultation has concluded
The Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville is dedicated to ensuring the safety of its residents. In November 2018, Council directed staff to implement a Traffic Calming Pilot Study consisting of traffic delineators bolted on roadways between opposing traffic lanes in select school zones and report back on the effectiveness of the pilot study.
Traffic calming is an important tool using physical design options and other measures to lower vehicular speeds and improve safety for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.
This summer staff installed traffic delineators in four pilot locations. The delineators have a narrowing effect on the roadway giving the perception of the need to slow down. The delineators are designed to withstand impacts from and prevent damage to vehicles if struck. The signs will be removed during the winter months to allow for winter maintenance operations.
During the course of the pilot, staff monitor vehicular movements to determine the effectiveness of the delineators.
